Attuning your minds for the weeks ahead...

Before i start on what to expect in the weeks ahead, and what to expect during the open house week, i would like to express my sincere apologies for not updating the blog, since the week 8. I assure that it would not happen again and when the need to update arises, i would update ASAP.

On to other matters...

Protein Technology E-Lab assignment.

The protein tech e-lab assignment is like a practical session, except that it is done as a computer simulation. The basic objective is to come up with a way to purify the protein of interest as efficiently as possible, given the parameters that has been set up. It is a pair work assignment.

The E-lab Assigment dateline has been pushed back to Week 14. So pls submit a proper report by the week stated.

So far the following groups have submitted their protein of choice:

Yamei + Weisan = Protein 13
Fui Leng + Lizhen = Protein 8
Eng Pau + Shi Ming = Protein 7
Jamie + Joash = Protein 6
Dee Lian + Cheryln = Protein 2
Gad + Gwen = Protein 9
Chen Yie + Tze Hui + Eileen = Protein 11
Lilies + Sindhu = Protein 12
Fauziah + Dai Yu = Protein 5
Hock Sim + Allen = Protein 3
Yee Yen + Wei Yun = Protein 4
Hwai Kit + Jasrie = Protein 14

Those names that are not there, and who have yet to find a group, please find one ASAP by Week 11. I need to keep a record for the lecturers. The following proteins are not reserved: 8, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20. Protein 10 is not allowed to be used. The names and protein of choice that has been submitted will be FINAL. No change will be allowed.

Question: Has anyone been able to successfully access the webbie? For my case, i have not. If you do, (google search experts/hacker wannabe out there) please post the real and functioning link for us to acess to. Thank you so much.

Protein Tech Poster Assignment

Poster assignment was issued by Mr ng, during the last tutorial before we had our one week break. Each group was given a different scenario and a poster is required as a submission piece.
The groupings are according to the grouping that we are in usually during our protein Tech practical.

Date of Submission: Week 15.

Medical Microbiology Project

Medical micro project involves simplifying and 'digesting' the complicated and often times technical aspects of the journal paper into something simpler so that the general audience and the 'less scientifically inclined' listeners would be able to understand the topic at hand.

Each group is given a different journal paper to present.

Venue of presentation is most likely the tutorial rooms and during the Practical slots ( tuesday morning) but this is not confirmed. Changes to the venue and time, will be notified by tomorrow.

Also, each group will have to submit a ONE page summary or flow chart, entailing the main points of your presentation.

Dateline for the one page summary is 'start of week 11'. I assume its monday, because the lecturers would need the 1 page summary before any presentation takes place and furthermore, the first group will be presenting on week 11, tuesday. I know this is rushed but please complete it and submit on monday.

For those curious, here is a breakdown of the schedule:

Week 11
Global climate change
Vancomycin resistance

Week 12
PCR diagnosis
Lab safety practices

Week 14
Ebola Virus pathogenesis
Attributs of virulence

Bioprocess Technology Project

The final phase of the project involves a ppt presentation of the topic chosen by the individual group. The presentation should be about 20 mins a copy of the presentation slides should be submitted after the presentation.

Take note that the presentation will start on week 12, with 4 presentation taking place during the bioprocess tutorial ( most likely) Therefore, on week 12, there will be 2 hours of tutorial, instead of 1 to accomodate all the presentations.

Groups assigned the week 11 presentation slots will present on week 12 instead and groups assigned the week 12 presentation slots will also present on week 12. Week 11 will start first.

The rest of the groups on week 13 and 14, there is no change.

Any other business

Please sign the consent form for the NE trip, that we will be going on the 25 of January, wednesday.

The meeting point is outside ELQ/South canteen near Car Park 23 at 2.50 pm sharp after our Bioinfomatics lesson.

Change of schedule for immunology:

On thursday, it would be an E lecture, on transplantation.
This week is also an E practical on Magnetic separation of mononuclear cells.
Date of submission: Week 12.
